I couldn’t think of a better way to start October than a trip to the North Yorkshire Moors… I can honestly say it is one of my favourite places to explore.
For this trip we were working with Gorgeous Cottages, a company we met at Crufts earlier this year. Gorgeous Cottages are a Yorkshire-based holiday company. Specialising in the very best holiday cottages. With over 170 luxury holiday cottages on offer, 80 of those are dog friendly. They will help you choose and book your perfect stay. So whether you are looking to explore the coast or countryside, there will be something to suit you.
After chatting with the team they found us the perfect dog-friendly base for us to explore, Gales Lodge. A gorgeous five-star, luxury cottage set in the village of Gillamor in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors. This cosy countryside cottage sleep two people, ideal for a romantic stay-cation… Made even better because you don’t have to leave the dog at home!
Open Plan Living
The moment you walk through the door you are greeted by a gorgeous open plan living space. The kitchen, living and dining room is combined, creating a cosy space for you to enjoy. The first thing I noticed was the quality of the interior furnishings, you can tell each had been carefully thought out and combined together to create a luxurious space for you to enjoy.
A Warm Welcome
They think of everything at Gales lodge. We arrived to the essentials; a fresh loaf of bread, milk, eggs, jam, crisps and a bottle of wine. This is a thoughtful touch as we didn’t have to worry about finding a local shop on arrive, we could just snuggle up and settle into our gorgeous home for the weekend. We could think about that after breakfast the following day.
The kitchen was a real treat, it was nice and compact but with the very best appliances so you are not sacrificing any of those home comforts! Being open plan the kitchen keeps with the cost cottage vibes, you will enjoy cooking that tasty meal while chatting to your loved one.
Now, some of you may have already seen our newest little prickly family member… But if you haven’t meet Mr Snuffles, our baby African Pygmy Hedgehog. It’s safe to say Alfie and I are both smitten, I actually think Alfie believes Snuffles is his own pet! He is always close by making sure he is not up to mischief.
Gales lodge warmly welcomed our little hog, even coming to meet him on arrival. I must admit we got some funny looks at the services while we were letting the hog and the dog out to have a bathroom break… I promise I haven’t lost the plot haha!
Cosy wood burner
It may sound excessive but for me a wood burner or open fire is essential, we don’t have one at home so it is definitely that little luxury we can enjoy while we are away. Alfie is always first to cosy up in front of the fire… I just cannot resist taking those cosy fire shots.
My favourite room in the house, it looks like something straight out of a magazine. The spacious master bedroom has a super king size bed… No I’m not being dramatic, it is possibly the biggest most comfortable bed I have ever slept in!
This is the face of a spaniel who had to miss out on snuggles in the human bed this holiday.. As a rule throughout all of the accommodation at Gorgeous Cottages, dogs are not allowed in the bedrooms. With the house all being on one floor it really wasn’t too much of a problem. Once you have got over the sulking spaniel of course haha!
Now, the luxury continued into the bathroom. The bathroom was spacious and modern, with gorgeous warm tones throughout. There was no bath tub, but the large walk in shower made up for it… Accompanied by complimentary shower products by The White Company, it was such a treat after a busy day exploring the Moors.
Alfie thoroughly enjoyed the heated flooring, he could often be found in the bathroom warming up after his adventures.
Gales Lodge has their own private patio garden, over the warmer months this will be the perfect place to sit out and enjoy breakfast or a summer bbq in the evening. Being enclosed we didn’t have to worry about Alfie wandering off.
