Alfie is obsessed with the beach, there is nothing he loves more than the sand between his paws and the wind in his ears… Oh and of course the swimming! He just has to get one sniff of the sea and he instantly changes! He is going to that beach whether you like it or not.
When we travel we love to explore new places to walk and enjoy, especially beaches. During our trip to Pembrokeshire last month we did just that. Our dog friendly accommodation was in the perfect location to explore the coast. Here are our favourite beaches!
Often described as Pembrokeshire’s best kept secret, Barafundle Bay is by far my favourite beach. After a short walk along the costal path, you will come across it’s golden sandy beaches. With sand dunes looking over ancient woodland it is absolutely gorgeous! Dogs are aloud on the beach all year round, but I can imagine that it gets very busy over the summer months.
Barafundle Bay is owned by the National Trust, so be prepared to pay to enter – I can promise it is well worth it.
Freshwater East was our local beach, just a short walk from our holiday cottage it was the perfect start to our day. It is a gorgeous golden sandy beach sheltered by sand dunes. Great for that quick run before you head out exploring the area or you can spend the whole day! Be sure to check out the cafe just a short walk away.
Freshwater West Beach
Known as one of Wales’s best surfing beaches, Freshwater West Beach is a great day out. There are gorgeous sandy beaches, and a whole array of rock pools for you to discover. We didn’t have the best weather for our walk, but it was still a great walk. Alfie loves splashing in the rock pools.
If you fancy some seafood after your day on the beach an adorable seafood cafe can be found in the car park.
With the gorgeous colourful houses of Tenby lining the backdrop Tenby Beach is a real treat. A popular beach all year round it is easy to see why. The golden sandy stretch goes on for miles! Be sure to take the time to explore Tenby afterwards, there is a whole array of dog friendly cafe’s and restraints.
These beaches do have dog restrictions during the peak season.
I hope you find our beach recommendations helpful, be sure to let me know your favourites.
