I have some fond memories of exploring Wales with my family growing up, with the dogs packed we would spend our holidays enjoying that quality time together – For us having the dogs join us was the priority. I always get so excited at any opportunity to head back and explore the gorgeous coastline.
Last week James and I, packed our bags and set off for a week in Pembrokeshire with a very excited Alfie in tow. It was his first trip to the seaside after his little setback, and we were yet to visit the south of Wales. So we were both keen to make the most of it. Which means choosing the perfect base for us to explore from. Thankfully the team at Coastal Cottages had done the hard work for us, finding us the complete gem that is Glan-Y-Mor.
Set in the seaside village of Freshwater East, you will find the gorgeous Glan-Y-Mor. A three bedroom holiday cottage with coastal views. In the perfect location for exploring, you are just a short walk from the beach and have some delicious dog friendly restaurant a few miles away.
With a modern and nautical interior the house itself is beautiful, It looks newly refurbished. With everything picture perfect. The furniture is a lovely jumble of patterns and styles which really shouldn’t match but they seem to fit together just perfectly! It is full of character! James even said it was “everything he could want in a holiday cottage” which is very high praise indeed! The only downside was having to leave at the end of the holiday.
A Warm Welcome
We never expect to arrive to any welcome goodies, but when we do, boy it’s good! Now I think we may have had the best yet when arriving at Glan-Y-Mor.
A nice bottle of red wine for us humans and a “Happy Holidays” Cake for little Alfie! I couldn’t quite believe it, and by the look on his face neither could Alfie! Handmade in Wales, this cake is made full of dog friendly ingredients that are not just healthy and natural but delicious! Of course Alfie could not wait to tuck straight in… He had cake for breakfast every day of his holiday. I’m just hoping he doesn’t expect that now we are back home!
You too can treat your pooch to their very own “Happy Holidays” cake as part of Coastal Cottages concierge service… You can arrange some great treats for yourself or the hounds.
Open Plan Living
The downstairs consists of a living room, dining room, and kitchen all open plan. Perfect for families… So whether you are preparing dinner, or enjoying the cosy nook, you will all be together – Even if you are doing different things, something that I really like.
Now, my favourite addition to the downstairs. The football table! I’m not going to lie, i’m possibly the worst at table football but we had lots of fun with it during our stay. It is great for deciding who is doing the washing up… Not so great if you have my skills!
A Cosy Nook
Whenever I travel, I like to feel at home… Something I felt almost instantly with Glan-Y-Mor. I loved the cosy nook by the fire. Perfect for snuggling up with your snoozy spaniel, or to binge watch your favourite box set on a rainy day [for us it was suits]. I can promise you and your family will spend many a hour here.
Glan-Y-Mor is kitted out with everything you could possibly need to keep you entertained. With the TV, Wii and a whole variety of books available that’s your cosy evenings in sorted. Over the week I have become quite the master at Super Mario!
Glan-Y-Mor sleeps 6 across three bedrooms, two twin rooms and then a king sized room. Of course we claimed the king, it was the perfect! The room was light and airy with the gorgeous sea view… I couldn’t think of a better view to wake up to. It definitely got me out of bed and down to the beach in no time!
Having a garden is always perk when booking for dog friendly accommodation, but for many it is essential. Glan-Y-Mor has two enclosed garden, one at the front with a little picnic area overlooking the sea and then the main back garden. Which was perfect for letting your dog out to explore, without worrying where they will end up.
Out the back there is a viewing area, perfect for those summer evenings. Crack out the barbecue and some wine and I could quite easily spend the evening out there. On a clear night the sky is full of stars… So grab your blanket and enjoy!
For those sandy paws…
My favourite addition is the outside shower… Although i’m sure Alfie will tell you other wise. With spaniels and beaches come sand, a whole lot of sand! The outside shower is perfect for washing off those sandy paws, keeping the house sand free – Yippie!
