I am the owner of a water obsessed spaniel. With that comes the constant search for effective ways to get Alfie warm and dry. At the same time hoping I can keep my furniture clean, making my life much easier! Today I am sharing with you my secret weapon, Dogrobes. They were a staple piece in Alfie’s wardrobe for our Scottish road trip. At one stage we were using three throughout the day!
Dogrobes used to be a company I would follow on the internet for years, never fully committing to make the switch… I don’t know why, all I know is that I should have done it sooner! I met the founder Margaret at Crufts this year, she explained to me just what makes the Dogrobe so special and we went home with a gorgeous navy one the same day [Thanks Margaret!]. Funnily enough the testing started much earlier than planned. Alfie decided to have an impromptu swim in the NEC lake. Over the past three months we have been vigorously testing, making sure it really can cope with a water monster.
What are Dogrobes?
It is essentially a bath robe for your dog! It’s as easy as that! Made from luxurious towelling fabric these robes make the tedious dog drying time a thing of the past. These Dogrobes are practical, so they are perfect to use after soggy walks, swimming, bathing and working. They are both stylish and affordable!
How do they work?
You simply pop them on and let your dogs carry on as usual, after around 30 minutes your dog will be nice and dry. The Dogrobe will absorb the moisture from your dogs coat, at the same time trapping their body heat. This means your dog will dry quickly and because the heat has been trapped in this keeps their muscles warm.
It is a serious life saver around the house, I can relax knowing that Alfie can happily zoom around the house on his happy post swim mad one… This is where he usually tries to spread as much water and mud around the house as possible. The dog robe will contain all this, preventing mess and that unpleasant wet dog smell!
Putting on your Dogrobe
It’s simple! You just slide it over your dog’s head, carefully pulling it into position over your dogs hind quarters and draw the ties up then fasten… There really isn’t that much more to say!
What makes Dogrobes so special?
They fit so well! It has taken them years to produce this design, each Dogrobe is reinforced in the key stress areas… This is perfect for the most energetic of dogs! It has no awkward straps or leg holes, it is fastened by a tie – Unlike the velcro used by competitor brands. I will admit I always seem to get in such a mess with velcro, I swear it just attracts dog hair. The ties are offset, this provides the best coverage of the dog’s underbelly, this ensures a snug fit. The dogrobe is also longer, this hangs over the dog’s hindquarters… One of the key areas that need drying!
The Snood is a new addition to 2017. Made from the same material as the main robes the snoods are designed to dry off those soggy spaniel ears and chest hair… The bit Alfie really hates to have dried with a towel!
The snoods are simple to put on, you just slide it over your dog’s head with the wider chest piece at the bottom. The “Dogrobes” logo is to go at the back of their neck. You start with the snood over their ears as this will dry their head. Over time your dog will shake it down, drying their throat and neck.
Dog robes are the first company to make a detachable snood, this is something so important as it gives you the flexibility to find a size to suit. The snood is to go over your dogs drying robe… But I must admit that I preferred it underneath, Alfie has quite a short neck [obviously meant in the kindest way possible] so I liked to tuck the material out of the way. Don’t worry though, both ways worked perfectly!
*Alfie would like to apologise for his ever so sassy facial expressions throughout this post… Apparently the Scottish Loch’s are bl**dy freezing!
Dogrobes come in a whole range of sizes and colours, we have generated quite the collection! For this trip Alfie was wearing his limited edition tartan robe! We just had to get in the Scottish spirit. Doesn’t he look fabulous!?
