I think it is safe to say that as a nation of dog lovers. We really do above and beyond to give our dogs the very best. Stylish collars, sumptuous beds and even holidays… Do you ever stop and wonder where all the resources to make them come from? I’m slightly ashamed to admit that I never really give it a second thought.
Recently we were contacted by Clara from Koko Collective asking if Alfie would be interested in modelling some very snazzy collars. With their bold bright prints and that hint of sophistication you would not believe they are made from recycled materials! – No, you did not read that wrong!
These are ethical, vegan pet accessories. Created from recycled bicycle inner tubes and the most fabulous vintage saris, it’s hard to believe it. Each collar and lead set have their own history, and are unique in every way. The bold bright patterns and colours are always changing as the material changes, ensuring each item is one of a kind. The bicycle inner tube really have been on quite the journey, who knows how many miles they have done. The inner tube is hard wearing and durable, the perfect alternative to leather.
Koko Collective have all their products made by a charity in India. A charity called Calcutta Rescue, the charity employs 10 artisans. They have connected through the charity because of illness or from attending the Charity’s schools. The charity makes sure that their employees are given a fair wage, access to free healthcare and schooling for their families.
Being the true country bumpkin, leather is usually always my first choice. I was slightly dubious about switching to the rubber to start with. Once I had the collars in my hands it’s safe to say that it’s something I would consider more often. Each piece felt durable, and I knew it could withstand Alfie’s mud monster habits.
The hardest part was picking a colour! There was the most beautiful selection to choose from. I first chose the “Kaia Collar”. This classic print instantly attracted my attention, It looks fabulous on him. I then went a little braver with my second choice… Opting for the bright and bold “Santana Collar”. I love the bolder colour on Alfie! It stands out so well against his coat colour.
So, What do you think? Would you swap to the more ethical dog products? I sure have been converted.
