Nestled in the New Forest, Hampshire you will find the picturesque and luxurious Burley Manor. A historic grade II listed building. The luxurious country manor just oozes with charm. It was quite easy for me to leave the real world behind and enjoy a couple of days of sheer relaxation.
Burley Manor is honestly a place straight from my dreams. If I were to design and renovate a hotel perfectly suited to my life it would be Burley Manor. I just knew the moment I started driving up the beautiful long drive, that I was going to fall in love with the place and never want to leave. A Striking building, set in the glorious countryside… As if things couldn’t get any better, there is a Red Deer Sanctuary directly in front of the Manor.
Both Alfie and I were already overly excited. The scenic drive through The New Forest, got us eager to get out and explore. We quickly headed to reception to get checked in. By this point gone was the cool, calm, collected spaniel! Alfie was just stood there trembling with excitement.
We received the warmest welcome from all the team. Alfie was showered with affection and biscuits [even though he was far too excited to appreciate it]. It really does make a difference to feel welcomed when traveling with Alfie, the team definitely did that!
If you are a dog owner you will get to stay in the glorious Garden Suits. These rooms are large and spacious. They also have their own private balcony, which opens up onto the lawn. You get the most beautiful view across the deer park.
The Garden Suits were ever so lavish! Decorated with bright bold colours and a careful selection of cosy furniture. Burley Manor have created the perfect place for you to relax. I must admit that I’m not a pink kind of person, but it was so tasteful that even James loved the decor. I think I could go as far as to say that it is one of my favourite rooms that we have ever stayed in.
I’d also like to point out just how incredible the bed was… I’ve probably never seen a bed so big! I’m not being dramatic, I could lay across it with no trouble at all (and i’m 5ft7!). The beds were a top quality Hypnos beds, dressed in the most sumptuous bedding. It just what you need after a long day exploring The New Forest.
There was a generous supply of tea and biscuits waiting for us – Perfect for a tea lover like myself. Of course we couldn’t resist the cookie jar! It was full of the most delicious white chocolate chip and cranberry cookies, all freshly baked for you on-site.
For your pooch
Now, from a dog friendly perspective the rooms were perfect for your four-legged friend. There was a handy dog friendly welcome pack waiting for us. The pack contained two dog bowls, a dog towel for those mucky paws, a map of The New Forest so we could find the best walks and then a packet of locally made dog biscuits – much to Alfie’s delight!
The bathroom was light and modern – Always a good thing! With a wide array of spa products from Temple Spa, a real treat. There was soft fluffy towels and a cosy dressing gown, just for that extra bit of luxury.
Dining at Burley Manor
After a couple of hours relaxing in our room we headed down to the bar for our dinner reservation. Like many places we have stayed in the past you are not allowed to take your dogs into the restaurant, but you can eat with your dog in the bar, which is absolutely fine with me. The bar was absolutely perfect, decorated in the most beautiful purple tones with a large cosy fireplace, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend the evening.
We were very lucky to be treated to a three course dinner courtesy of Burley Manor – James is a complete foodie so was so excited by this! I’m a little picky with food, but I fully committed to embracing the experience – It’s my new years resolution to say yes to everything!
Burley Manor prides themselves on their Mediterranean inspired food, using seasonal ingredients from across the New Forest and beyond. Creating wonderful rustic dishes with the delicate taste of the Mediterranean.
For starters I opted for the Venison Carpaccio with capers, olives and rocket… Funnily enough it was a bit of a stab in the dark for me, but it was delicious! The venison was perfection. James had the Tiger prawns al pil pil, which went down a treat. I even impressed myself and tried the Tiger prawns too!
Ok, the mains were a tricky decision… As I wanted to taste a bit of everything. I’m a big meat-eater so the menu was a big hit! If meat isn’t your thing there is also a great vegetarian menu for you to enjoy.
In the end we decided to order both the Duck with heritage vegetables and the beef with smokey mashed potato. We shared both meals so we could try a bit of both. It really was divine! Both meats cooked to perfection and then the smokey mash, that really was a treat to the taste buds!
We were then asked if we were ready for desserts – Is that really a question? I am always ready for dessert! It’s my favourite course…
After two delicious courses I was excited, you really cannot go wrong when it come to pudding! With pudding I always go for the fruity option so decided on the Slow-baked apple & shortbread. This came with sweet almond cream, granny smith apple sorbet.. Oh my! It was heaven, and that apple sorbet really was the best I had ever tasted.
James kept it fruity with the Warm orange blossom madeleine accompanied with limoncello brûlée, marmalade, yoghurt, orange sorbet. Could not praise highly enough.
We were up bright and early ready for breakfast. After the meal the night before we knew we were in for another delicious treat. Our table was all ready for us upon arrival, with a biscuit waiting for Alfie – A great start to the day!
The breakfast selection was incredible, there was something for every taste! I’m pretty proud to still be on my new years health kick so kept it pretty light… Opting for the fruit salad with muesli.
James really embraced breakfast, it was difficult not to as there was quite the spread! In fact the breakfast buffet was incredible. There was a whole array of fresh fruit, pastries, meats, cheese and more.. James went for a great selection before ordering himself the “Burley Breakfast”.
The Burley Breakfast was a tasteful twist on the classic breakfast, with Cobley Wood sausage, smoked streaky bacon, balsamic plum tomato, roasted mushroom, white pudding, smoked paprika haricot beans and free range eggs cooked to your liking. Lets just say it was as good as it sounds! I couldn’t resist helping James eat it!
After one more biscuit for the road, we checked out our room ready for a day of exploring! I was so tempted to stay an extra night, we honestly had such a wonderful time.
A huge thank you Burley Manor for inviting us to stay. The whole team went above and beyond to give us the perfect stay.
