Crooked Chimney Cottage, Cornwall

Nestled in the most delightful Cornish village of Altarnun is Crooked Chimney Cottage. A quaint little cottage set in the perfect location to explore the whole of Cornwall. Last week Alfie and I were lucky enough to collaborate with Holidaycottages.co.uk alongside our good friend Steph (Stephanie Dreams) for a wonderful few nights away in Cornwall with the spaniels.

Both Steph and I are so passionate about being able to travel across the country with our dogs, so it was great to be able to explore together – The dogs are quite a team now! I love to see Alfie enjoy himself with Sev and Lily.dsc_2010-11dsc_2017-11

You may remember from a previous blog post I mentioned how there was much more to think about when looking for dog friendly accommodation [You can read the blog post here]… Well Crooked Chimney Cottage definitely ticked all the boxes. It was also a good job we had the ever so helpful team at Holidaycottages.co.uk on hand to make choosing the perfect dog friendly location easy!

There were many factors we had to consider when looking for a great holiday base. First one  being its location. We wanted somewhere out the way, but also a short drive from local amenities. Crooked Chimney cottage was perfectly situated just 10 miles from Boscastle, in the village of Altarnun. We were a short walk from the local store and a village pub. But, just a little drive away, is a the most perfect dog friendly pub called  The Springer Spaniel [a wonderful name I’m sure you’ll agree]. The food there was lovely, so good in fact that it has a Michelin Star!

Upon arrival we instantly fell in love with the cottage. There was such a warm cosy atmosphere and full of character! We were welcomed by a lovely letter from the owner with a delicious cream tea and Prosecco waiting for us [the Icing on the cake!]. The house was equipped with everything we could possibly need and more! There was tasty tea and coffee, fresh towels and flowers. Of course the doggies were not forgotten. There was a water bowl ready for us and the most adorable tray of treats! Some very lucky dogs! Alfie was quick to test the treats out! I think you can tell by his very excitable eyes that they were a big hit.

Like I have said over and over, I’m always so much happier when I feel that Alfie is welcome… Crooked Chimney Cottage was no exception.

For me, no cottage is complete without a cosy log burner. It just makes everything feel extra cosy… Especially on an autumn trip! Steph and I were so excited to light the fire and relax. We don’t have a fire at home so it is such a treat, Alfie definitely made the most of the fire snuggles.

Now, without sounding like an absolute crazy lady I feel I should mention the beds. Hands down the best most comfortable bed I have every slept in, so much so that I was so disappointed when I got home! It was just one big hug of a bed… I think Alfie agreed!

For a cottage Crooked Chimney was ever so spacious.  It can sleep up to 5 people with 4 dogs.. Perfect for a family or couples looking to discover the area, there is a whole array of activities for you to do. There is Bodmin Moor right on your doorstep… You can take a stroll across the moor to discover the wildlife and take in the most breathtaking views. Bodmin Moor was our first stop most mornings to give the dogs a good run to burn off any excess energy. Or if you fancy something a little more energetic there is Siblyback Lake, which offers Fly fishing, sailing and wind surfing.

You also have some of the most beautiful coastline to discover, Port Isaac, Padstow and Rock are my favourites. [Keep your eyes peeled, there will be a blog post on Rock very soon].

Another essential thing for me is the garden. With three dogs in the house it really is helpful to have an enclosed garden… The last thing you want to do is to go for a late night walk with the dogs! There was a lovely spacious garden, with a great patio area [I can imagine sitting out in the summer with a barbecue and a glass of wine].

The Village of Altarnun itself is absolutely beautiful, there is so much character to it. Some may say it is one of the prettiest villages in the country! I loved being out in the countryside, all the locals were very friendly and it was so peaceful.

I’d highly recommend Crooked Chimney Cottage if you are looking to stay in Cornwall, we had the most relaxing stay! Even if this cottage doesn’t take your fancy holidaycottages.co.uk has a wide array of cottages to suit everyone.
