Updating our Travel Essentials

I think when you travel a lot it is so important to have those essential items which will make your dog feel at home no matter where in the country you are. Even though we always seem to be traveling, Alfie isn’t always the easiest to settle and with a number of trips planned over the next couple of months I thought it was about time that we invested in some quality items.Look no further than Hugo and Otto. A store founded by interior designer Carol Bate, who faced the challenge of finding great quality products and accessories for dogs that fitted effortlessly with the homes she was designing. Carol travelled far and wide to handpick the products with outstanding design, excellent craftsmanship and a contemporary style, partnering with some of the worlds leading brands.DSC_3769-11DSC_3781-11Even though we travel a lot, Alfie occasionally struggles to settle when in a new environment so for my it was a priority to get him a bed for traveling. We instantly fell in love with their hazelnut travel bed. It’s made from a soft organic cotton canvas lined with pure natural lambs wool, making it so very cosy. What I loved most was the way it can easily folded up into a bag with the simple velcro fastenings making any aspect of traveling simple; whether you are placing it in the back of the car, on a restaurant floor or just at your new accommodation to make it feel like home.DSC_3793-11Alfie may have far too many accessories, but you can never have to many, am I right? I just could not resist the Tiergarten set…DSC_3898-111DSC_3900-11

The Tiergarten set is handmade from the finest soft Nubuck leather, with the elegant brass hardware, it really is something special. I couldn’t quite believe how soft it is. Made from the softest of materials it kind to both your dogs hair follicles and you hands. The thing that really sold the set to me was the training lead, with a clip at both ends you can have the lead at a variety of lengths, or use it to attach your dog to your chair if you are out having a meal – It also comes in handy with the heel work training. When traveling it really is essential to have a lead that is perfect for any occasion.

I like to have both in my handbag, as they always come in handy. I use the pouch for treats and poop bags, and anything else we may need on our day trips.

I always like to have a dummy to hand, Alfie is a very highly strung dog… If I give him a ball or toy his mind blows, then I have a dribbling lunatic on my hands. So with the dummy I’ll play some retrieving games to take the edge off him – Blind retrieves are my favourite, making him hunt for it really gets his mind working.DSC_3806-11DSC_3815-11DSC_3823-11DSC_3851-11I hope you have enjoyed seeing our unboxing, we had such fun snapping away! – Alfie just loves delivery day!DSC_3935-11

[…] Staying somewhere new can be unsettling for any dog, even for one who travels regularly. Whenever I travel I always make sure to pack all of Alfie’s essentials to make him feel more at home: little things like his travel bed, toys and his own bowl. With those familiar items around it won’t take him long to settle in. [We recently did a post on our travel essentials.] […]
