Cotswold Lavender

Photographing Alfie in lavender has been something I have wanted to do for years, but never quite got around to organising… This year I was determined to make the trip out to Cotswold Lavender, so a couple of Friday’s back my mum and I took the drive out to the Cotswolds for an afternoon of cream tea and lavender fields, of course with little Alf in tow!

Cotswold Lavender is a third generation family farm, set in the beautiful Cotswold Hills. The lavender was first planted in 2000, It seems to thrive on their limestones soils producing some of the highest quality English Lavender. There is now over 35 different varieties, and over 500,ooo plants. All the crops are distilled on the farm and made into a variety of products.

We headed straight for the Tea Rooms upon arrival… Definitely tempted by the wide array of cakes! There was a great selection of  sandwiches, cakes and light lunches but for us the cream tea was definitely a winner! We went for the fruit scones, but if you are feeling adventurous you can give their lavender scones a try.

Unfortunately Dogs are not allowed in the tea rooms, but don’t let that put you off! There is a lovely outside seating area for you and your dog to enjoy… I actually preferred sitting outside in the tranquil Cotswold countryside there really are very little distractions, you can just sit back, relax and watch the world go by.

Now, the lavender fields really were something special. Both Alfie and I are serious hay fever sufferers, I will admit that I was a little worried that the smell would be overpowering but there wasn’t just a soft aroma it really was quite magical.

It really was a photographers dream, and of course Alfie’s posing was on fine form! Carefully positioning himself between the rows patiently waiting for a photo or two…
